LGL Limited, considered one of North America’s premier ecological research and consulting firms, is accepting applications for the position of a GIS Technician in our Sidney, BC office. We provide leading-edge, science-based solutions to a diversity of clients in Canada, the U.S.A., and beyond. The successful candidate will work as a member of our office-based teams to fulfill project obligations. The successful candidate will be pursuing a career in GIS, consistent with the following qualifications and experience.
Position Summary
The GIS Technician serves as a technical expert for geospatial/statistical/modelling analysis and application development projects. They are responsible for supporting Senior Analysts and Biologists with complex analytical elements of projects working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing strategic direction and management oversight across projects to ensure delivery of high-quality results.
What You Will Do
- Produce high-quality spatial deliverables via analysis and modeling of large datasets in a GIS environment
- Assist with proposals, budgets and project plans for new business pursuits
- Work with project managers to create, proof, maintain, and document complex databases to support analytical operations
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, automate processes, and introduce new technologies
- Support multiple concurrent projects, including all project stages from planning and design to delivery, training, and documentation
- Review data quality, integrity, and security across all analytical/hardware/software systems
- Occasional field work may be required depending on project needs
- Other duties as assigned
What You Will Bring
- Post-secondary degree in GIS with a geography/Earth sciences focus, or advanced diploma in GIS from a technical school.
- 2- 5 years of experience in a GIS Technician or specialist role
- Proficient with ArcGIS (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) and its associated tools and extensions (e.g., Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst).
- Experience in GIS software development/programing including ModelBuilder, Python, Arcade, .NET, and web development tools.
- Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook).

Additional Requirements
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Able to work at a desk in front of a computer for an extended period
- This position is based in Sidney BC and will require an in-person presence
